As the Page Turns 4/7/25

On Tuesday, April 1st Secret Agent Golden Tigress (aka Library Fairy MaKayla) lead the way with the Jamerson Secret Agent Training. The trainees learned the art of disguise and learned a few basics in code breaking while enjoying snacks.

On Wednesday, April 2nd the Library hosted their Story & Craft, Library Fairy MaKayla featured the book “The Night Before Easter” by Natasha Wing. “Twas the night before Easter, just before dawn, Not a creature was stirring out on the lawn.” The Easter bunny takes center stage in this delightful tale. The kids decorated Easter crowns and silly stickers using markers, crayons and other embellishments while enjoying snacks. Our next Story & Craft Times will be on Wednesday, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th starting at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend with the understanding that this program is done on a preschool level.

On Wednesday, April 2nd our Secret Agent Golden Tigress was back for a movie time as a part of the Library’s Secret Agent Training. She featured a movie about wife who is a retired spy. On the surface, our heroine has it all…marriage, new baby, twin step kids. But in reality, trying to mother the twins, who clearly don’t want her around, is her toughest challenge yet. Our heroine’s world is turned upside down when the maniacal Timekeeper threatens to take over the planet and she’s called back into action. Of course, popcorn was served.

National Library Week runs from Sunday, April 6th through Saturday, April 12th and is a celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. This would be a great week to renew or get a Library card! This Library has lots to offer you; internet, printing and faxing services, events, programs, books (physical, ebooks, and audio), magazines (physical and online), movies, kanopy (streaming service), free homework help, adult classes and more!

The Library donated several large boxes of books to A.L.I.P. (Appomattox Literacy Intervention Program) just in time for the 2025 Spring Run. Trot and Spot will both be visiting the Library’s parking lot so that kids up through high school can borrow books. Trot will be here on Tuesday, April 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th from 10:45 am to 11:45 am. Spot will be here on Wednesday, April 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th from 11:25 am to 12:25 pm.

Edible Book Festival at the Jamerson Library - Get ready to eat a book and join in the festival, an edible book festival! On Tuesday, April 8th the Library will be hosting an edible book festival from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in our community room. Participants are asked to create edible art inspired by books! All submissions must depict a fictional or non-fictional literary work or character. You can pick up an entry form and the list of rules at the Library. Read your book and eat it too!

On Saturday, April 12th the Library will host our Creative Outlet Class for Adults starting at 11:00 am in the community room. April’s project will be to create a watercolor silhouette using watercolor pencils and book pages. Let the colors flow inspired by spring and your imagination. Looking for something fun to do on Saturday, April 19th? How about joining the Library at the James River State Park’s Earth Day Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. James River State Park is located at 104 Green Hill Drive, Gladstone, VA. Look for our booth at the visitor’s center we will be promoting our 2025 Summer Reading Program. There will be crafts, hiking, a live animal display, exhibits, a photo booth, and more!

In May we will launch our very own Seed Library! If you would like to donate seeds so that the public can share in the joys of gardening please feel free to drop them off during normal business hours. Native and decorative flowers, herbs, vegetables, trees and more are welcome! We ask that you  please clearly label what seeds/bulbs/bareroots you are donating, and the year they were harvested, if known.
