March is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. This was the time of year to resume military campaigns that had been interrupted due to winter. March’s birthstone is the aquamarine, and the flower is the daffodil. Some observances for the month of March are: Adopt A Rescued Guinea Pig Month, Credit Education Month, Irish-American Heritage Month, National Craft Month, National March Into Literacy Month, Paws To Read Month, and Women’s History Month.
On Wednesday, February 26th we hosted our weekly Story & Craft Time, featuring the book “My Dog Thinks I’m A Genius”, written by Harriet Ziefert, and paintings by Barroux. Louie loves watching his young master paint, and when the boy puts his finishing touches on a magnificent self-portrait, Louie barks enthusiastically. One day, when the boy is at school, Louie tries his paw at painting a still life. Is this purely an accident, or is Louie a “genius,” just like his master? You can find out by checking out this title. We let the kids explore their artistic side by creating self-portraits with paint markers while enjoying snacks. Our next Story & Craft Times will be on March 5th, 12th, 19th, & 26th, starting at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend with the understanding that this program is done on a preschool level.
The winner of our Monsters Need Love Too Counting Kisses Contest is Adrian with a guess of 163 kisses. The most popular guess was 100 kisses, the lowest guess was 40 kisses, and the highest guess was 485 kisses, that is a lot of kisses! We had 87 patrons take a guess and the number of kisses in the jar was actually 168! We want to congratulate Adrian on her winning guess!
Who doesn’t love desserts? We do! On Friday, February 28 the Library hosted our Cookbook Book Club, this month’s theme was “We Love Desserts”! Our next Cookbook Book Club will be held on Friday, March 28th, starting at 12:00pm. March’s theme will be “pot luck”. Bring in a much-loved cookbook, a sample of the recipe you want to share, (examples: anything you would bring to a social gathering, a gelatin salad, hot or cold casserole, a dessert, or finger foods) and copies of the recipe. The Library will provide plates/bowls, plastic utensils, and napkins but you must provide your serving implements. This program is intended for adults (yes gentlemen, this means you too).
