Pumpkins, Plants and the Penny Pincher Posse!

Pick a Pumpkin Mrs. Millie! On Wednesday, September 23th the Library hosted their weekly Story & Craft Time. An employee read the book “Pick A Pumpkin Mrs. Millie!” by Judy Cox. The kids enjoyed making decorative pumpkins using chenille sticks and orange pony beads while enjoying snacks. Our next Story & Craft Time will be on Wednesday, October 1 starting at 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend with the understanding that this program is done on a preschool level.

The Library continued our community outreach by attending the CVCC’s (Central Virginia Community College) Student Appreciation Picnic on Wednesday, September 24th. We met students, faculty and other vendors in this meet and greet style event that promoted area businesses, clubs and other organizations that potentially could benefit students in their educational journey. The Library passed out newsletters, bubbles (a great hit), bookmarks, swag bags, and other library-related information including how to obtain a Jamerson Memorial Library card.

Soup’s on! That was the theme of Wednesday, October 24’s Cookbook Book Club. The purpose of this tasty meeting is to promote a sense of fun at your local library by encouraging good conversation and adventure through sharing recipes and ideas. A Library staff member promoted her own personal copy of the book “The Ultimate Soup Cookbook” by Reader’s Digest, prepared a vegan version of the Three-Bead Soup with Spinach recipe, sharing how she tweaked the ingredients to make this recipe a vegan meal. Our next Cookbook Book Club will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd, starting at 6:00 pm. October’s theme will be “Almost Homemade, recipes that use pre-made or store-bought convenience foods, which are then combined with a few fresh ingredients to save time and effort for a hot meal that is “almost homemade”.

The Library has been doing bi-annual plant swap for almost a decade, and we look forward to many more years propagating plant to promote friendship between the staff and patrons.

Penny and her posse are still ridding strong around Appomattox. If you find Penny, or a member of her posse (a cat shaped rubber duck) you are encouraged to bring them back to the Library and exchange them for a Penny Pincher Posse Prize. We will continue to hide Penny and members of her posse around town until all the kitty-ducks have vanished. To keep this fun and interactive game going we encourage you to return the kitty-ducks. Once they are gone, the game is over.
