The Catholic University Library and Information Science has recognized local Library Director, Cindy Scheu as one of only two students to be awarded Student of the year for 2025 – 2026! Cindy graduated in December 2025 with a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. The Jamerson Library Board and staff are proud to have such a prestigious award given to Cindy in acknowledgment of her excellence in academic performance, professional work and leadership, and mentorship contributions.

We have some exciting news! The Jamerson Memorial Library has been awarded the Robert E Lee Soil and Water Conservation District’s Outdoor Classroom Grant, for $500.00. We are looking forward to being able to offer our patrons several environmental and conservational experiences to support the development and enhancement of outdoor learning opportunities.

We have even more exciting news! Starting in July the Jamerson Library will be returning to the Pamplin Depot for programs! Library Director, Cindy Scheu, will be heading up a weekly Story & Craft Time, and a monthly Adult Book Club and a Creative Class for Adults. We will have copies of the monthly book club book at the Pamplin Town Office starting July 1st.

On Tuesday, June 9th, the Jamerson  Library hosted another BAC (Book, Activity & Craft) to the Library Day in the community room. Library Fairy MaKayla had a full room, as she introduced the book “Diggersaurs” by Michael Whaite. A dozen dinosaur trucks crunch, scrape, chomp, and rumble through this book as they work on roads and construction sites. Dinosaur fans will love the inventive names–SCOOPERSAURUS! DUMPERSAURUS!–and rip-roaring sound effects as they count each new Jurassic giant, up to twelve. Whether they are building or demolishing, these helpful Diggersaurs are the coolest things in town! The kids made dinosaur sun catchers as the craft, and quick cup geodes as the activity, while enjoying snacks.

We didn’t let the threat of thunderstorms hold us back, with a huge turnout of over 80 patrons for the Wednesday, June 10th’s Family Story & Craft Time, our guest reader was MESH (Minicamelot’s Emotional Support Horses). MESH featured the books “On the Day the Horse Got Out” by Audrey Helen Weber, and “Rain and the Reading Horse” by Maria Gianferrari. . Kiva Auto provided bananas and oranges for snacks, while the Library provided the juice. Families got to take home a copy of the book of their choice. Patrons had an assortment of crafts to choose from and got to meet the mini horses! Our next Family Story & Craft Time will be on Wednesday, July 8th, starting at 11:00 am in Abbitt Park. Our guest reader will be Katelin from the Robert E Lee Soil and Water Conservation District.  You must be pre-registered to attend this event as supplies and books are limited. Also, on Wednesday, the Library hosted part 2 of a four-part new dinosaur documentary series. We stomped through 165 million years of history with free snacks and drinks. Part 3 of this series will be on Wednesday, June 17th, starting at 1:00 pm in the Library’s community room.

Wednesday was wrapped up with the Adult Book Club featuring a non-fiction book titled “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End” by Atul Gawande. Our next Jamerson Adult Book Club will be on Wednesday, July 8th, starting at 5:30 pm at the Jamerson Library, and on Tuesday, July 14th, starting at 3pm at the Pamplin Depot. July’s book is “The Rom-Commers” by Katherine Center, with copies of the book available at both locations. Emma Wheeler, an aspiring screenwriter and full-time caretaker for her dad, finally gets her big break: rewriting a script for her idol, Charlie Yates. But Charlie is arrogant, dismissive, and doesn’t even care about the project – he just wants it greenlit so he can move on. Worst of all, he thinks love is a scam. Emma refused to back down, fighting for herself, rom-coms, and love itself- until an accidental kiss complicates everything and the line between fiction and real life starts to blur.

On Thursday, June 11th, the Library welcomed Methodist Daycare for another round of dinosaur adventures. The kids got to decorate their own tote bags with fabric markers, have fun with dinosaur jokes, an I spy, word searches, and a hatching dino craft project.

Also, on Thursday there was another busy BAC to the Library event, featuring the book “Tinysaurus” by Andrea Kaczmarek. Tinysaurus is a story for little dinosaur-lovers about how it’s not too bad to be tiny… and the value of helping. The kids experimented with baking soda and vinegar volcanoes, and unearthing pet dinosaurs while enjoying snacks.

On Friday, June 12th, due to a heat adversary across Virginia, the Library moved the Tampa Taiko Drums program inside for the safety and concern of the performer and audience. The sound of drums, a flute, and a percussion instrument vibrated across the walls, as Ron Collins, the owner of Tampa Taiko talked about the history of Taiko, the music of Japan, a heart pounding drum performance and the process of making a Taiko Drum. He involved the audience in an upbeat drum performance showing kids and adults the four basic beats of Taiko, followed by several group drumming session.

The Library was honored with being a host for the nationwide live-streaming TED Democracy Philadelphia: Founding Futures to help connect communities across the country to the vital conversations about the future of democracy taking place in Philadelphia during America’s 250th birthday celebrations. This daylong symposium featured 15+ brand-new TED Talks focused on the evolution and future of democracy, streaming live from Philadelphia during America’s 250th anniversary.

Watch us Grow! Our Jamerson Library Seed Library has been growing in popularity. We have added English and Spanish Bluebell bulbs, and Yellow Daffodil bulbs.

In observance of the Juneteenth Holiday, the Library will be closed on Friday, June 19th. We will reopen for normal business hours on Saturday, June 20, starting at 9:30 am. The Library will be closed on Friday, June 19th, but we will be a guest vendor at Appomattox for Equality’s 2026 Juneteenth Celebration “Honoring the Past – Celebrating the Present – Building the Future” from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Carver Price Cultural Center at 106 Patricia Anne Lane in Appomattox. Juneteenth is the oldest national commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States and guests of all races, nationalities, and religions will come together for reflection, rejoicing, assessment and self-improvement. This event is FREE for the community to attend. There will be live entertainment, Kuumba Dance Ensemble, 360 photo booth, Juneteenth Bingo, arts and crafts, 50/50 raffle, various vendors, Walker’s Fish & Chicken and more.

We will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, July 6th, starting at 9:30 am. The book drop located at the back of the building will remain open at this time.
